Notes: Calystegia sepium is widely distributed and frequent throughout Iowa. It is a common twining vine found along roadsides, fencerows, fields and woodland edges—often in wet disturbed areas.

Flowers: June; white to pink; two large bracts (1.5 to 3.5 cm long) originate below the calyx and are sometimes large enough to cover the five sepals; corolla is funnelform usually more than 5 cm long; style is undivided or slightly cleft at apex supporting two stigmas which are linear to narrowly oval.
Leaves: alternate; hastate (arrow head shaped) with a sharp tip; basel leaves nearly as large as upper leaves
