Notes: Four species of Ludwigia have been reported in Iowa: L. alternifolia, L. palustris, L. peploides, and L. polycarpa. All four are found in wet invironments (see reference 2 below). L. peploides is not frequent in Iowa but can form dense mats and is sometimes considered invasive (see reference 10).

Flowers: June; yellow; petals and sepals 5, stamen 10, fruit; a 5 sided elongate many seeded capsule which functions as a floral pedicel during flowering.
Leaves: alternate, oblong-elliptic, margin entire.
